V News
V Microsoft and Yahoo deal
* All about competing with Google
* Leaves Yahoo looking pretty weak - if they don't do search what do they do? Mail, Flickr. Link/lander page?
* Leaves Yahoo looking pretty weak - if they don't do search what do they do? Mail, Flickr. Link/lander page?
* 10 year agreement - long time in internet timeline
V Windows 7
* 10 Browsers will be given as an installable option in the EU
* Will also be applied to XP and Vista via an update
* Microsoft going the extra yard to please EU - crazy really
V Broadband UK
* Virgin Media found to be fastest
* Compared Virgin's 10MB to everyone else on 8MB
* Didn't take account of throttling and speed restrictions
V Palm Pre
* Web OS 1.1 resolves iTunes syncing problems
* Surely they should be spending time on providing a media solution rather than hacking into iTunes
V Twitter
* Released 101 guide for businesses
* 1000's of spammers removed from service
* New homepage focussing on search and trends
* User sued for tweet
* O2 launched their text tweeting service

* 1TB dropped to 500MB price (£229)
V Suicide Worker
* Foxconn worker accused of losing or selling next gen iPhone
* Committed suicide after bullying and beatings at work
* If Apple wasn't so secretive would this have happened?
V iPhone Text Hack
* Flaw involving iPhone SMS exposed
* Sends code in SMS that crashes and makes iPhone unusable
* Only have to receive the message to get hacked
* Presented last Thursday at the Black Hat conference
* Apple were told of this but the two experts who found the flaw heard nothing form them
* O2 (not Apple or AT&T) announced on Friday that a patch would be released to address the issue.
* Patch was released on Friday, a full OS download to fix this flaw
* A statement was then released by Apple stating that the fix was issued less than 24 hours since the flaw was demo'd - why they didn't get the fix out earlier we'll never know
V iPhone 3GS Security
* Encryption is easy to hack
* Hacked within 2 minutes and demo'd to Wired
* Very poor and a real kick in the teeth for any business users
V Google Latitude
* Released as a web app, not an actual application
* This was requested by Apple
* Works but limited
* Brightkite a better option
* Example of controlling Apple and the length they are going to to protect their interests
V Spotify iPhone App
* Allows you to stream music
* Allows you to browse and modify playlists - updated very quickly
* Can also download tracks to iPhone so once your 'offline' you can still listen to music
* For premium users only
* Apple still to approve - we don't think they will as it competes with iTunes and the iTunes store
V Google Voice blocked
* Official Google Voice app blocked from the App store
* Assumed AT&T behind the move
* AT&T deny this - say Apple block app's, not them
* 3rd party Google Voice app's already on sale on the App store were also pulled with no explanation
* One third party developer released their app for free for jailbroken iPhone users
* Apple's communication with developer over this issue was horrible
* Now FCC have launched an investigation with Apple, AT&T and Google asking why the application was blocked, who blocked it and also asking Apple about guidelines for removing applications
* Results of this investigation will be very interesting
* Now seeing some iPhone developer backlash
* One of the Panic developers on why he wouldn't develop on the iPhone and why for phone use he is switching to Palm Pre
* Rejections and lack of communication from Apple is terrible
* Why don't Apple blog and communicate with their community
* Not releasing secrets ahead of time but afterwards actually engage more with their community
* Apple have said jailbroken phones can disable transmission towers
* Sounding more like Microsoft as the grow bigger
V Space Invaders Infinity Gene
* Great shooter for the iPhone
* Fantastic vector graphics
* Can select your own music track and it builds a level based on the music
* Great value - £2.99
V Secret of Monkey island
* On the iPhone
* Restyled graphics and voice - not so sure I like it
* £4.99 so not too bad
* Don't like the controls - tacked on feeling
V Games
V Wipeout Fury
* Add-on pack for Wipeout on PS3
* Add's 3 new game modes, 12 tracks, 13 ships
* New game modes change the feel of the game - makes it more like an arcade shooter
* Probably Ian's fav game on the PS3
