V Welcome
V About
* Welcome to DigitalOutbox
* A podcast all about digital technology - computing, gadgets, gaming
* UK based podcast with a real world take on the digital trends
V News
V Google Chrome OS
* Very little announced
* For power (what does that mean?) users we don't see the benefit
* Good for average users but where do things like iTunes library sit?
* Videos, photo's - all on the cloud? Doubt it.
* Too early to say what this will really do
* Competition for Microsoft
* Was this really a spoiler announcement ahead of Office 2010 announcement?
* Is Jolicloud a competitor?
* Downloadable version by year end
V Office 2010
* Free web based versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint
* New versions of the desktop app's show some new features but focus is on the web clients
* On the surface, Office web app's look to offer more advanced than Google App's and Zoho
V Google out of beta
* Beta tag removed from Google Mail, App's etc
* Enterprise push over the next 12 months
* Won't slow the development of these app's
V O2 - Free Twitter replies and DM's
* From August 1st text messages to your phone for free for mentions and DM's
* Fair usage applies - 600 maximum please
* Still costs to text to post to Twitter
* Nice alternative to push
V Battlefield 1943
* Frustrating start on the 360
* Doubled server space - still struggled to get a game
* Friend matches an issue as well
* However once your in a game, lag free 24 player gaming was lovely
V 1 vs 100
* Beta started in UK last week
* 73000 concurrent players
* Play for prizes
* Very impressive, game went very smoothly
* Nice to play something different on the console
V Apple News
V Touchpad netbook rumours
* October, $800
* Believe it when we see it
V Camera's on iPods
* Makes sense
* See it in the September refresh?
* Apple in talks with T-Mobile and Orange in the UK
V Prowl
* Get Growl notifications via Push Notification on the iPhone
* £1.69 from the App Store
* Buy the app and install plugin on your Mac
* Granular control over notifications - downloads, ftp transfers, mail etc
* Not for everyone but very handy
V TwitVid
* Free app to publish video's from the 3GS to twitter
* Works well, picking up a lot of press from iPhone users
V Push Notifications
* The solution doesn't scale
* No way to differentiate between push notifications from the various applications
* Should be a way of seeing older notifications, scrolling through a list of them, click on a notification to launch app etc
* Hopefully a future update will rework how they work
V Snow Leopard Visual tweaks
* Some tweaks in latest build
* Hint of things to come?
V Plex
V Media Player for Mac
* Plays video, music, photo's and internet content
* Interface is superb - gorgeous
* Control via Apple remote - Ian finds it easy, Shakeel isn't convinced
* Setup isn't the best though
* We used a tutorial from ScreenCastsOnline to help us setup Plex
* We've found Plex is picky about how you name your files
* Once setup though playback is excellent. Love the resume features and the metadata that is added to your content makes such a big difference
* Music - not been successful in setting up music. Need to use Plex Media Server but Ian found it crashed and Shakeel's yet to try it
* Applications can be added to stream internet content. Apple movies, iPlayer, various podcasts
* Those worked really well - easier to browse the web content via Plex than it was to use the original websites
* Despite the issues we loved this app. If you've a large video library then this comes highly recommended.
V Picks
