V News
V iPhone OS 3.0
* Slow Upgrade to OS 3.0
* We both upgraded early via gold master
* MMS - nice implementation and it's finally here
V Spotlight - good app launcher, need to get used to it more
* Spotlight - press home button on first page jumps to Spotlight
* Can set-up home button so that double click launches Spotlight and camera
* Search is fast
V Cut, copy, paste - nice but doubt we'll use it much
* Copy paste dialogue can get in the way slightly
V Voice record - nice UI and a good app
* Shakeel wants to kill Ian!
* Can also send voice note via e-mail
* Can also MMS voice message
V Push notifications
* Could be useful
* Format for notifications is the same - could be confusing/annoying
V Peer to peer connections
* Can't wait to try
* Should be huge for games
V Landscape keyboard
* Big difference
* Faster Typing
* Not in Spotlight though
V Text forwarding
* At last!
* Shouldn't have to wait for OS release for these features though
V Tethering
* Nice but costly
* O2 - extra payment on top of my all I can eat mobile internet plan that I currently have
* USB stick and other deals are better value
* Do I really need it? Bigger screen easier but iPhone is pretty capable.
* Does average joe really need these features?
V In App Purchases
* Could be expensive
* App's already selling cheap but have nasty hidden costs
* Leechers out there - buyer beware
V Shake to shuffle
* Watching Shak on Skype - shake it baby!
* Remember - shake to undo is added as well
* Youtube now has account support - easy access to favourties
* Note syncing - finally but other app's offer more - Evernote for example.
V Find My iPhone
* Works really well
* Can send messages to the phone
* Need to be a MobileMe subscriber. Apple need to do more to justify value
V Media scrubbing
* Really nice addition and handy for scrubbing through podcasts
* x2 speed works well
* Quickly go back 30 seconds if you miss something
* What does the e-mail button do?
V Safari
* Speed is excellent
* Auto fill added for Safari - remember to enable it!
V iPhone 3GS
* Ian stumped up the cash for a 32GB iPhone 3GS
* Bought on Pay & Go
* Dearer monthly (slightly) but better flexibility next year
V Best feature is speed
* App's launching 1.5-3 times faster, especially games
* Safari speed is so much better on 3G and wi-fi
* Physically, the phone is identical to 3G
* Oil resistant screen - doesn't feel different but does clean far quicker and doesn't pick up as much oil/grease as 3G phone
* Can't recommend buying phone as an essential upgrade, but if you have the money it is a good upgrade
V Camera
* Nice upgrade
* Better quality picture
* Touch to focus works really well
* Video is nice
* Still need to touch the little button to take photo's - so annoying
* Twittelator Pro - can tweet videos
V Voice Control
* It understands Glaswegian!
* Worked more times than not although you need to hold the home button for quite a while before it kicks in
* Nice music playing options
V Digital Compass
* It's a compass
* It works!
* Google maps cone of direction isn't obvious - hit bottom left location button and then press again to get direction
* Connector hasn't changed so old add-ons will work with 3GS
* Plug has been redesigned - now just a plug head with a USB port - really nice.
* Battery - seems to be as good if not slightly better in the fews days of usage so far
V O2 Fail
* UK shops were very quiet at launch
* Carphone Warehouse and O2 shops deserted
* Apple Store had 30-40 people
* Ian used a personal shopping appointment to jump the queue - shocker!
* O2 have said that they sold more 3GS than 3G on day one. Must be due to bigger stock this year.
V Picks
V Real Racing
* More realistic racing, all track based
* Quicker launching on 3GS
* Smoother on 3GS
* Lot's of tracks and cars
* Career plus online options
V Paper Toss
* It's free!
* Nice time waster
* Graphics are spot on for the type of game
