Comment for Chris (so he doesn't feel too left out). Is Bing's increase in market share down to it being the default search provider when you install ie now and the fact that the vast majority of people are too stupid / lazy / apathetic to change it?
Ahhh – I feel all warm and fuzzy. Comments do funny things to sad muppets!
Having not installed IE recently, I didn't realise that Bing was now default – although I guess that's to be expected.
Knowing that, I have every confidence that will be having an effect. I talk to clients every day and you'd be very surprised just how many of them have absolutely no clue as to what web browser software is – let along that you can install different browsers – so the chance of them realising there are different search options to the default is probably just too much to ask!
There's also the effect of Bing being new and interesting to people at the moment so we're yet to see how it gets on after this interest naturally dies down. Interestingly, UK saw a 5% increase in Bing over the same month – so we're seeing more movement than US (where the figures quoted were based).
