Hi, just a quickie on what I understand about the 118 800 service… I believe I'm right in saying that your number doesn't get sent or given to the person making the request. Instead, the number of the person making the request is sent to your phone in a txt and you then have the option as to whether to call the number or not.

In that way, some of the privacy problems are averted. However, not the biggest problem, that being the fact this company has managed to gather so much personal information in the first place.

Missing just ONE damn “do you not mind us not not sending on your details to 3rd parties” tick boxes has serious implications for privacy.

Thanks for the clarification. Been reading through it more myself and that is how it works. Bit more research before we podcast methinks.

I still don't like the way the content has been aggregated though, especially as many of those tick boxes invert there intent between questions. Very sneaky and not in the spirit that those questions should be listed.

118 800 have changed their opt out system now, they have kept the previously available text & phone options but added a page on their website where you can enter your mobile number, they send you a code via text message which gets verified on their site which they use to make your mobile opted out.

Aside from the third party data issue, which personally I think they are stretching the argument on very thinly, they chose to ignore mobile numbers that were registered on the TPS lists.

Good work gents – keep it up and please don't become optimists or fan boys.

Saw the front for this (Shona Foster) on breakfast telly the other day when I was away on a course. The joy of being in a hotel means long lies and a bit of telly before work! When asked where she got the info from, there was a bit of a squirm and a long pause. 'Its er, all available from, er, open type sources' she didn't answer.

Love the podcast boys – was this done face-to face or online?

Just remember not to drop your T's! (seem to spend my whole life telling my kids this!).

;-)

Thanks for the updates gents and also the +ve feedback and hints.

The podcast was done online, me in Glasgow and Shakeel in Peterborough. Dropping T's is hard to avoid but we are aiming to be pretty casual – something that doesn't take too much effort!

Nice pod boys, definitely seems like you have a seed to work with here: the banter is very natural sounding – which I beleive is the hardest part to get right. It also comes across that you both have a deep & varied knowledge of the subject matter – yes your geeks :-)

My only criticism is that I think it's a tad long, a touch waffly – maybe keep the amount you talk the same but spend a little time editing it down to the best 30-45 mins.

Looking forward to the next one.
